I started this project simply with the idea of a coin that is endlessly spinning, never landing. From there, while I worked on refining the animation I thought about what the two sides of the coin could represent, which lead me to the idea of head vs. heart.
The designs were chosen to reflect two conflicting ideas to go with the head vs heart theme. On the head side I decided to reference "momento mori" with some of the classic design elements of that theme. On the heart side I referenced the opposite phrase "momento vivere" as well as the ancient Egyptian belief of weighing your heart against a feather after death to determine your fate.
